What Is Neurofeedback Therapy?

Neurofeedback Therapy, also called EEG Biofeedback is a state-of-the-art, painless, drug-free method for teaching the brain to function at its highest potential. It is essentially exercise for your brain that helps it to self-regulate and maintain flexibility throughout the day. Patients often find that they have less anxiety, feel less tired and irritable, sleep more deeply, and can focus better to meet the demands of their daily lives. It is considered safe and effective for kids, teens, and adults.

"I’ve seen so many patients become a better version of themselves by using Neurofeedback Therapy to shake up old, stuck neurological patterns that have formed over many years."

- Dr. Zendi Moldenhauer

Does Neurofeedback Therapy Work?

Research has shown that receiving neurofeedback therapy can help improve the way your brain functions. For example, conditions such as Anxiety or Pain become an issue when your brain gets “locked” into a state of dysregulation. This creates embedded neural pathways that correspond to these symptoms or conditions. The more we travel down those pathways, the harder it is to stop them. The result? Chronic symptoms. Neurofeedback can “retrain” your brain to create new, healthy neural pathways that can help to alleviate these symptoms.

These are a few of the conditions that Neurofeedback Therapy has been shown to improve.

ADHD Brain Icon

ADHD

The goal of all neurofeedback is to transform an unhealthy, abnormal brainwave pattern into a normal, healthy, organized pattern. By doing this, the brain becomes more stable and is able to operate optimally and efficiently.

Anxiety Brain

Anxiety

Stressors impact the body every second of every day. With anxiety, overstimulation can create abnormal responses in the brain to incoming stimuli. Neurofeedback is shown to normalize brainwaves.

Autism

Improvements include: initiation of touch & contact, reduced emotional outbursts, clear speech patterns, better responses to instructions, increased imaginative thought, decreased hyperactivity & better social skills.

Depression Brain Icon

Depression

Dis-regulation between the hemispheres of the brain may contribute to depression. As the left side of the brain becomes more active, individuals begin to feel more positive in their moods.

Neurofeedback Insomnia Icon

Insomnia

Clinical studies have shown neurofeedback to be an effective, drugless, natural approach to insomnia, especially for people who have struggled for years. If you are ready to be able to fall asleep and stay asleep, for improved energy, health and wellbeing, then it’s time to relax and reward your brain for improved function with BrainCore Neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback Anxiety Brain

Memory & Cognitive Function

Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to create new neural pathways. This puts you in the driver’s seat of reclaiming and optimizing your health. Your brain is not hard-wired, it is not limited or fixed in it’s abilities to heal. When the imbalance is removed and brainwaves are regulated, cognitive function improves. The result is an improved ability to remember.

Neurofeedback Migraine Icon

Migraines

Neurofeedback is a scientifically proven system that retrains the brain to create new patterns and responses to incoming triggers and stressors.  The result is a calmer, happier, healthier brain that has fewer symptoms and flare ups. Studies have shown more than a 54% rate of total cessation of pain and symptoms and 99% reported a decrease in pain and symptoms.

Peak Performance

Performing at a high level puts your body under prolonged stress. These physical, mental and emotional impacts often trigger the fight or flight response within your body, which will steal your ability to succeed over time. Neurofeedback has been shown to improve the depth and quality of sleep, mental focus and clarity, adaptability and mental cognition, processing speed, and memory.

What is a QEEG Brainmap?

QEEG Brainmapping creates a functional map of brainwave activity in your brain at various regions associated with particular symptoms and behaviors. It is able to show where dysregulation is occurring in your brain and can be a great tool to better understand the root cause of your symptoms and behaviors.

"QEEG Brainmaps are one of my most powerful tools to tease out the root cause of behaviors and symptoms – whether it is ADD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety, or OCD – now we can finally see what the driver really is so that we can address it."

- Dr. Zendi Moldenhauer

How Does Neurofeedback Therapy Work?

To rewire the brain, neurofeedback sessions consist of watching videos of your choice on Amazon, Netflix or Youtube with special sensors on your head that read your brainwaves in real time. The sensors are connected to software that adjusts the brightness and audio volume of the show to give your brain ‘rewards’ when it is regulating itself in a normal healthy pattern. This creates new neural pathways and trains your brain just like muscle memory when you practice an activity over and over.

How Do I Get Started?

All clients start with a private consultation to discuss your needs and what we can offer you here at Arbor Health with Braincore Neurofeedback. Then you will come in for a QEEG Brainmap and follow up for the Report of Findings a couple of days later. The QEEG Brainmap Report of Findings will help explain the root cause of your symptoms and indicate if you are a good candidate for Neurofeedback Therapy.

1. QEEG Brainmap

A QEEG Brainmap appointment lasts approximately 50 minutes. This functional map allows us to see where imbalances exist. Much like a weather map, this map will show areas in the brain that may be over or under signaling. During the Report of Findings, we will discuss where brain dysregulation is correlated to your physical and behavioral symptoms.

2. Neurofeedback

Brain training sessions are fun and easy and typically last 45 minutes - you simply watch your favorite show while connected to sensors on your head. When a normal wave pattern is achieved, your brain gets rewarded with better images and sound for the show. Sessions can be completed in-office or using a home unit. Treatment generally requires 30-40 Neurofeedback sessions.

3. Results

Once retraining is complete, new more efficient pathways will continue to form in your brain for up to 6 months. Typically, physical and psychological symptoms improve within a few weeks. Patients find they are less tired and irritable, sleep more deeply, and are better able to focus and meet the demands of their daily lives with greater ease.
